The Gohpur police in Assam’s Biswanath district apprehended seven juvenile boys on charges of raping and then killing a minor girl.

They were nabbed from different places of Gohpur in Biswanath district, police sources said.

One 12-year-old girl was found hanging inside a dense forest on Saturday.

The police suspected that the girl was raped and then killed on February 28 night.

Meanwhile, a large number of people gathered in front of the Gohpur police station and demanded that the nabbed boys be handed over to the public.

All the apprehended boys are aged below 18 years and appeared in the High School Leaving Certificate Examinations 2020 conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA).

According to sources, the seven boys called the girl just after the end of their HSLC Examination in the pretext of attending a party arranged on the occasion.

But later they allegedly raped the girl in the backside of a house and hanged her on a tree inside a dense jungle.

The incident took place at No .1 Chakla village under Gohpur police station.

After the incident, the boys had been absconding but the police were able to nab them from various places of the district on Saturday.

Meanwhile, an irate mob assaulted a person who is undergoing treatment at Biswanath Chariali civil hospital.
