Mizoram Congress on Tuesday accused Assam chief minister Himanta Biswas Sarma of inciting violence against neighbouring states over the inter-state boundary dispute for political gains.
A statement issued by the youth wing of Congress alleged that Sarma was provoking the people of Assam through his official Twitter handle by leveling baseless allegations against Mizoram.
The Assam chief minister was not playing a role as a leader and responsible citizen to defuse tension and maintain peace at the time of escalated border tension, the youth wing said in the statement.
It alleged that the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) was formed not for the development and unity of the Northeastern states but as a political arrangement for the BJP to grab power in the NE region.
The Congress youth also vehemently condemned Assam police for opening fire towards unarmed civilians and blamed the Assam government for having border disputes with all its neighbouring states.
It claimed that the Mizoram forces were forced to retaliate against Assam aggression in a bid to protect civilians.
The Congress youth wing also urged all northeastern states having border disputes with Assam to be united and sit for a dialogue on a common platform to solve the inter-state boundary disputes with Assam at the earliest.
It urged the people of Mizoram to stand united against aggression from outside.
The youth wing further condoled the death of five policemen and conveyed deep condolences to the bereaved families.
