Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati (IIT-G) on Saturday said the institute will resume its academic activities from May 15 next.

The institute has suspended all its academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities till May 14 due to the nationwide lockdown that has been implemented in an attempt to curb the coronavirus outbreak.

The office of the Dean of Academic Affairs (DoAA) that any activity of the institute which requires the presence of students like classes, tests, examinations, events and projects have all been suspended till May 14.

According to the website of IIT-Guwahati, the theory classes were being conducted online from April 4.

IIT-Guwahati has recently developed two technologies – a UVC LED system to disinfect areas and a fabric to prevent the harmful virus from touching the body.

A research team lead by Senthilmurugan Subbiah of the Department of Chemical Engineering has created these technologies.

According to the institute, the UVC system is a proven technology to sanitize the microorganism infected non-porous surface.

The team is also improving the design by integrating UVC with ozone system such that surface with porous nature also can be sanitized.

Meanwhile, to prevent the spread of the virus, the institute has also developed the prototype of a Faceshield or mask as per the guideline of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The team has been led by Supradip Das of the Department of Design.
