GUWAHATI: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann asserted that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is poised to triumph in the 2026 Assam assembly elections, foreseeing a government formation in the state.

He confidently stated, “Mark my words—AAP will emerge victorious and lead the government in Assam following the 2026 assembly elections.”

Speaking during a campaign for Rishiraj Koundinya, the AAP candidate in Sonitpur, Mann highlighted the cultural and economic parallels between Punjab and Assam.

He pledged to uplift the condition of tea garden workers in Assam, vowing to increase their daily wage to Rs 450 and enact supportive legislation.

Criticizing the BJP-led Assam government’s priorities, he emphasized the need for a focus on public welfare over capitalist interests.

Mann also targeted Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging neglect of public education and suggesting personal motives behind the lack of improvements.

“His (Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma) wife owns a private school and so he is not interested in improving and developing the government schools,” he claimed.

AAP has nominated candidates in two constituencies in Assam for the Lok Sabha elections.
