Hundreds of Hindu Jagran Mancha (HJM) volunteers on Monday staged protest in front of Hojai Police Station against ‘Love Jihad’.

It has been alleged that on November 14 morning, a Muslim youth, Faizul Haque, a resident of Ahmed Nagar in Hojai, identifying himself as a Hindu (Ranjit Das), lured and eloped  a minor girl from the Hindu community.

The girl is a resident of Jugijaan’s Purb Kandulimari in Hojai.

The father of the girl lodged a complaint with Jugijaan police outpost on the same day.

The HJM volunteers shouted slogans against the ‘Love Jihad’ and submitted a memorandum to additional superintendent of police, Suman Chakraborty and circle officer (A) Nabajyoti Das.

Talking to Northeast Now, Ashok Kejriwal, general secretary, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Hojai district said, “The lackadaisical attitude of the police in connection with the case compelled us to protest.”

“We have given 48-hour deadline to the police to find the girl and the culprit who eloped her. If the police fail to rescue her and nab the culprit, we will have no option but to launch a statewide agitation,” he added.

He alleged, “Hindu girls are being targeted and trapped into ‘Love Jihad. This is a big conspiracy to reduce Hindu population.”

He demanded that ‘Love Jihad’ be immediately stopped.

Suman Chakraborty, additional superintendent of police ensured the protestors that police are performing its duty.

“Already two teams of the police have launched operation and are tracking the couple. The girl will be rescued and the culprit will be apprehended soon,” said the police official.
