It’s raining records at Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC).

A specialty tea on Tuesday not only broke a record in less than two weeks but set a new international record by fetching a price of Rs. 75,000 per kilogram.

Secretary of the GTAC Buyers’ Association Dinesh Bihani said this on Tuesday adding that the tea, Golden Butterfly, produced by the Dikom Tea Estate, fetched the whooping price.

The M/s Assam Tea Traders, oldest tea shop in Guwahati, bought the specialty tea for their customers, he said.

“In the world of tea this auction centre has created an image of a place where records are meant to be broken and history is meant to be re-written,” Bihani said.

“The GTAC is giving an opportunity to all the sellers who want to sell their teas at remunerative prices,” said Bihani.

“The best teas are always in good demand and the buyers are always ready to pay a handsome price,” Bihani added.

It may be mentioned that the GTAC has become a world recognized tea hub for Quality and Specialty Tea.

The GTAC has also been witnessing a lot of specialty tea in recent times.

On July 31 this year, a specialty tea Maijan Orthodox Golden Tea tips set an international record by fetching Rs. 70,501 per kilogram of the specialty tea.

The Mainaj Orthodox Golden tea record was broken on Tuesday by the Golden Butterfly, BIhani said.

The Maijan Orthodox Golden Tea tips were specialty tea produced by Assam Company India Limited, one of the oldest tea companies in Assam and the tea was hand-rolled and sun-dried.
