People on Saturday paid rich tributes to former three-time Assam chief minister, Tarun Gogoi as his ashes arrived in Sivasagar.

People in large numbers paid floral tributes to the pot carrying Gogoi’s ashes during a meeting organized in Dolmukh Chariali in Sivasagar.

An inter-faith prayer meet and Naam Prasanga (prayer) were held on the occasion.

Gogoi’s son and Kaliabor MP, Gaurav Gogoi was present on the occasion along with the leader of the opposition in the state assembly, Debabrata Saikia and a host of Congress leaders.

The family of the chief minister had decided to carry his ashes to every district and immerse it in different rivers of the state.
