Assam’s eminent sports personality of yesteryears, Prafulla Kumar Borkotoky, breathed his last at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) on Thursday.

Prafulla Kumar Borkotoky was a former member of the state football and cricket teams.

Borkotoky was 83 at the time of his demise.

According to sources, the eminent sportsman died of post-Covid19 complications.

He was a reputed footballer and represented the famous Thengal Football Club.

Borkotoky, was a retired employee of Oil & Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) and was a resident of Tarajan TRP Road.

He leaves behind his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives.

On Thursday, Jorhat recorded 3 more Covid19 deaths.

The district reported 180 new Covid19 positive cases in the last 24 hours.

Of the new cases, 8 were confirmed during RT-PCR test and 72 were confirmed during Rapid Antigen Tests.

In the last 24 hours, Assam reported 4,309 new positive cases and 46 more deaths due to Covid19.

The positivity rate of Assam stood at 4.02% in Assam.

Assam currently has 50,534 active Covid19 cases.
