Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, who is in critical condition, underwent dialysis on Sunday at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).
Informing this on Sunday evening, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters, “Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi’s health condition continues to remain critical. But he underwent dialysis for 6 hours today.”
“The GMCH doctors planned to do dialysis for 4 hours. But he (Gogoi) could bear dialysis for 6 hours,” Sarma said.
“The toxic elements were removed from his body through the process of dialysis as he is not in a condition to self-urinate. The result of the dialysis will reflect tomorrow,” Sarma said after visiting the ex-CM at the ICU of GMCH.

Sarma said former chief minister Gogoi is still under mechanical ventilation.
“His health is still in a critical condition,” health minister Sarma said.
He informed that the GMCH doctors are treating Gogoi in coordination with the specialist doctors at AIIMS, New Delhi.
Talking to reporters, Gogoi’s son, Kaliabor Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi thanked the people of the state who have prayed for the former chief minister’s recovery.
“I express thanks to all the people who have prayed for the ex-CM at namghars, mandirs, churches, masjids, gurudwaras and homes. The ex-CM has got energy due to their prayers,” Gogoi said.
He also informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union defence minister Rajnath Singh, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and other national leaders of the Congress have called him and took stock of the ex-CM’s health condition.
Gaurav Gogoi thanked all of them.
The MP also informed that he has talked to the GMCH doctors on whether a sound system can be installed in the ICU room of his father so that the voices of the people, who are praying for the ex-CM, reach his ears.
He said this may work as a therapy and help increase the strength of the ailing ex-CM even remaining in ICU.
Meanwhile, the CM’s daughter Chandrima Gogoi on Sunday arrived in GMCH from the US to meet her ailing father.
Gogoi’s daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi also reached the hospital on Saturday.
