As flood in Assam continues to play havoc, Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi on Friday visited the flood hit Chirang district and spent time with the flood affected people sheltered in Malipara ME School temporary relief camp.
He said he is greatly concerned by the loss of lives and livelihoods as the government is trying its best to mitigate the sufferings of the flood affected people.
Governor Prof Mukhi upon visiting the relief camp, talked to the camp inmates sheltered there.
He asked district administration to leave no stone unturned to assuage the sufferings of the babies, elderly people, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

He also askeddDeputy commissioner to take care of the health and hygiene of the camp inmates including providing safe and pure drinking water.
He also asked the deputy commissioner to make available medical facilities to the camp inmates.
In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor asked the deputy commissioner to follow the new guidelines of Assam State Disaster Management Authority for the relief camp management to prevent the spread of coronavirus among the flood affected people.
He also asked the DC to arrange adequate space among the inmates in relief camps.
He also asked him to ensure supply of good quality relief materials among the camp inmates including baby food.
The Governor also visited Dongapeta LP School Relief camp and talked to the flood affected people who have taken shelter there.
Governor Prof. Mukhi during his visit to the district also visited erosion affected areas near Hagrama Bridge.
It may be noted that the area suffered severe erosion perpetrated by Aie river.
He also said that once flood water recedes, the areas which suffered severe damages would be restored and reconstructed using the flood management fund.
Since flood has been an annual phenomenon which perpetually happens every year causing devastation to the flood prone areas, Governor Prof Mukhi asked the Principal Secretary BTC Siddharth Singh to earmark all vulnerable areas including vulnerable embankments in the BTAD areas once the flood water recedes.
The Governor also said that once the flood season is over repair and reconstruction work can be started on a full throttle to fortify the vulnerable areas to minimize the recurring damages caused by the flood.
Prof Mukhi also hailed the resilience shown by the people of Assam in this twin catastrophe who rendered all possible cooperation to the State government to deal with the situation. BTC Principal Secretary Siddharth Singh, DC Chirang Gautam Talukdar and other senior government officers were present during the Governor’s visit.
