There is no gun sound in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) now and there is an atmosphere of peace, said Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Tamulpur.
“The path of peace will be followed by the collective development of BTR,” said Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while attending an election meeting of Jolen Daimary, the BJP-AGP-UPPL alliance candidate for the Tamulpur Assembly seat in the ensuing by-election.
The election meeting was held on Sunday in Motanga field of Tamulpur sub-division under Tamulpur Assembly constituency in Baksa district.

While speaking on the occasion, chief minister Sarma on Sunday said, “We lost Tamulpur MLA Leho Ram Boro prematurely. I wish his soul rest in peace.”
The Assam chief minister paid a tribute to Leho Ram Boro and said, “Today’s meeting is not an election meeting; it is a tribute meeting.”
The bye-election to Tamulpur was necessitated after MLA Leho Ram Boro died prematurely due to Covid19.
Chief minister Sarma said, “Permanent peace is currently back in BTR. The gun culture is over. Brotherhood has arisen among people.”
Highlighting various development works including the construction of bridge on Pagaldia river in Tamulpur sub-division, setting up of a medical college hospital in Tamulpur, the chief minister said, “By 2022, the movement of Tamulpur-Jartaluk-Mushalpur link road on Pagaldia river will be accessible.”
“A new bridge will be built over Pagaldia river in Kumarikata’s Khairani,” he said.
“People from Barma, Chapaguri will be able to come to Tamulpur medical college through the bridge,” he added.
Talking about the development, he said, “Development is now flowing in Tamulpur. This is because the people have voted for the UPPL.”
He announced that all the poor families will be included in the Arunodaya scheme and seven thousand families will be included in the Arunodaya scheme newly.
Sarma said, “The Gorkhas should not be worried anymore. It has been decided to give them equal status. Their problems including the issue of D-voter have been solved one by one.”
BTR as well as all over Assam have been making arrangements to solve various problems in the last eight months as well as the problem of land-selling of BTR residents.
Dr Sarma also announced that the benefit of microfinance loans would be extended to women of the area.
“Krishi Sanman Nidhi will be extended from next November,” he announced.
Sarma announced that said the Food Corporation of India (FCI) will procure paddy at Rs 1,900 per quintal.
The Assam chief minister thanked Emmanuel Mosahary, Deben Boro and Chandi Basumtary for withdrawing thir nomination.
Speaking at the election meeting, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief executive member (CEM) Pramod Boro said, “The country runs democratically. Accordingly, we have put up a candidate from our party.”
He said earlier, the peace in the Bodoland region was marred by violence.
“Now that environment has disappeared. Thirty-two lakh people in BTR have been at peace. The people of Tamulpur have got medical college without any agitation,” he said.
