Two police personnel lost their lives after being knocked by a running train on the railway tracks of Naranarayan Setu in Assam’s Goalpara on Thursday night.

The deceased persons have been identified as Karnadhar Nath and Abul Kalam Azad.

While Nath worked as a police constable, Azad was a havildar.

The unfortunate incident happened around 10 pm on Thursday.

The two policemen who were on night duty went near the railway tracks of the bridge and were unfortunately knocked down by a Guwahati-Bongaigaon demu passenger train on Thursday.

Both of them died on the spot.

Nath was a resident of Baguna village of West Goalpara and Azad hails from Bapujinagar area of Goalpara town.

After getting to know about the deadly accident, additional superintendent of Police of Goalpara district Amitabh Basumatary rushed to the spot.

The bodies of the policemen were later taken to Goalpara Civil Hospital for post mortem.
