Following the apprehending of Ronthai Lungphi, the brother of an active political leader and social worker of Bordumsa circle during the wee hours on Monday from his Bordumsa Magantong residence by Makum based security forces in association with the local Army during an anti-insurgency operation in the area, the Army personnel in civil dress were assaulted by the agitated mob in the premises of Bordumsa Police Station.

According to the members of the Lungphi family, a group of Army personnel had entered the house of the victim and forcibly took away Lungphi and handed over to Bordumsa Police in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday morning along with a pistol branding him as a NSCN link man.

Meanwhile, hundreds of agitated crowds thronged the local police station and assaulted one of the armed Army personnel in civil dress whom the public mistook for Army informer and responsible for previous night incident in Lungphi’s residence.

The assaulted Army jawan identified as Rajib Gogoi of B COY 9 RAJRIF C/O 99 APO somehow escaped the public wrath and saved himself inside the police station.

However, faced with pressing demands of the local people the Army officials who immediately attended the crisis withdrew the FIR against the victim stating ‘the victim who was suspected to be NSCN (K) is found innocent by public and released after investigations by local police’.

With regard to the alleged recovery of a pistol from the possession of the victim, Bohon Bo, the President of Tangsa Development Society (TDS) Bordumsa in his joint press communique demanded the local police to investigate thoroughly into the case and assert the exact nature of the act and circumstances leading to the recovery of the said seized weapon presently lying within the disposal of the police station.
