Lakhimpur superintendent of police Sri Rajveer on Saturday announced that those persons, who conceal their travel history during the ongoing lockdown, would be booked according to the law.
The announcement from the district police chief comes as people started entering the district either in buses, cars, or trains.
Along with other parts of the state, many people, who remained stranded in states other than Northeast, started returning homes in the district after the resumption of passenger train service from May 12.
The Lakhimpur SP made the announcement through an order vide Memo No. NL/Crime/2020/4225-A, issued on Saturday in the wake of the entry of people from outside the Northeast to Lakhimpur district.
“It is mandatory for them (persons coming from outside the North Eastern states) to report before the local Health Screening centre,” said the order issued by the Lakhimpur SP.
The order also asked the officers-in-charge and inspectors-in-charge of all the police stations and outposts to inform the village headmen in their jurisdictions in this regard.
Those who would avoid reporting to the health screening centres or hide their travel history would face cases under Section 120(B)/307/269/270 of Indian Penal Code and other relevant provisions of the law, the order said.
The first New Delhi-Dibrugarh special train carrying around 261 passengers, including people from Lakhimpur district, arrived at Banipur railway station in Dibrugarh at 7 am on Thursday.
