Sivasagar police seized a vehicle carrying three containers of treacle on Friday night at Kharangi village bordering Haluwating.
Rising graph of illegal liquor selling in Amguri and its adjacent areas has become a matter of serious concern for the inhabitants of the district. People allege that anti-social elements are ruling the roost due to the illegal liquor selling in the area. They also point accusing fingers at the excise department officials for remaining a mute spectator.
Treacle is basically used for making country liquor and unscrupulous businessmen in connivance with the excise officials are allegedly doing brisk business of country liquor in Amguri and nearby areas
On Friday night villagers spotted a Bolero pick up van carrying treacle was going towards Kharangi village and informed the Haluwating police who later intercepted the vehicle and recovered three containers.
