The AASU units of Teok, Titabar, Mariani, and others continued protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 on Sunday.
The protest programmes were also participated by the artistes and other organisations.
In response to a call for ‘Satyagrah’ by the central leadership of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on December 16, 17 & 18, the Jorhat district unit has also decided to observe the same on December 18.
A procession will be taken out of the Jorhat stadium at 10 am.
Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni Aparanji Korati said apart from Jorhat town, teams from the supply department have been sent to Titabar and Mariani to ensure that traders do not hike the prices of essential commodities due to short supply.

There have been allegations that some unscrupulous traders have been taking advantage of the shutdown and hiking prices of the essential commodities.
The CAA seeks to grant Indian citizenship to persons belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have migrated to India after facing persecution on grounds of religion in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh if they fulfil conditions for grant of citizenship.
The deputy commissioner further said there would be no cooking gas shortage as a truck carrying LPG arrived in Jorhat on Sunday.
The night curfew from 10 pm to 6 am has been extended till Sunday until further orders.
The artistes of Jorhat also staged protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office complex here on Sunday by singing songs of patriotism and nationalism.
Meanwhile, the youths in Assam, who prepared for the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET), could not appear for the examination on Sunday due to the unavailability of internet connection.
However, the authorities have posted a notice on the website that the NET for the northeastern region would be held at a later date which will be notified.
