Sleuths of Assam Police and forest department officials on Tuesday night foiled an attempt to poach a one-horned rhino as the joint team apprehended four poachers in Assam’s Biswanath district.

The joint team of police and forest while based on a specific input launched a search operation at Rangsali near Behali in the district.

The joint operation was led by Range Officer, Crime Investigation Range, Pranjal Baruah.

Officials said that Range Officer, Nayan Jyoti Gogoi, Gamiri Range and SI Raju Dowarah, Officer-In-Charge Behali PS with the help of 2nd battalion Assam Forest Protection Force apprehended the four rhino poachers from Botiamari-Rangsali Road while they were coming by a Temp to hunt rhinoceros in Kaziranga National Park.

The four were identified as Paosanthang Guite alias Thang Boi (33), Babul Das alias Dudu (44), Bimal Bania alias Babu (24) and Sukhdev Mukhiya alias Gulna Bin (55).

While Paosanthang Guite is a sharp-shooter from Manipur, Babul Das and Sukhdev Mukhiya are most wanted poachers involved in many rhino poaching cases.
