GUWAHATI: The Assam NDA coalition, comprising the UPPL, BJP and AGP, has chosen UPPL’s Sidli MLA Joyanta Basumatary as the NDA candidate for the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency.

Basumatary’s selection was made by the steering committee and will be formally announced on Wednesday (March 13).

Earlier this week, the UPPL, BJP and AGP formed a steering committee to finalize the NDA candidate for the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency in Assam.

As part of the agreement, the BJP will contest 11 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Assam, while allocating two seats to its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and one seat to its other ally, the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL).

AGP has announced Phani Bhusan Choudhury as its candidate for the Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency and Zabed Islam for the Dhubri constituency.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP had fielded 10 candidates and secured victories in 9 out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam.
