An Assam Mountaineering Association team has successfully reached the summit of an unnamed virgin peak of 6240 m in Ladakh as part of their winter expedition.

The association launched a winter expedition in Ladakh amidst Covid19 pandemic under the leadership of mountaineer Manash Barooah.

The expedition was participated by 7 members of the mountaineering association.

According to sources, the Assam Mountaineering Association team selected two peaks for the expedition.

The peaks were Mt. Pologonka (6370 m) and an unnamed virgin peak (6240m).

On October 23, 2020, four members of the team reached the summit of the unnamed virgin peak around 11:05 am and flew the association’s flag along with the Assamese Gamocha.

The members, who were able to reach the summit successfully, are Manash Barooah, Jayanta Nath, Bhaskar Baruah and Shekhar Bordoloi.

The team is safe and sound and reached the base camp at around 1 pm on the same day, sources said.

The expedition has been sponsored by the Assam government, sources added.
