Kokrajhar Police recovered a cache of arms and ammunition including AK series rifles during an operation in the wee hours on Wednesday.

Police said on the basis of specific information received from “local source” about concealment of illegal arms and ammunitions, Kokrajhar Police launched an operation Wednesday at about 2 am.

The operation was led by Kokrajhar additional superintendent of police (headquarters) Mukut Rabha.

The operation was assisted by Kokrajhar deputy superintendent of police (headquarters) Punamjit Nath along with officer in-charge of Kokrajhar police station Binanda Basumatary and his staff.

The operation was carried out in the northern side of Karigaon PP under Kokrajhar police station and at about 5 am, the police team was able to recover a cache of arms and ammunition.

The recovered arms and ammunition were kept hidden underground in the Lauti area under Karigaon PP.

“Further investigation is going on. A case has been registered and the investigation is on,” said Kokrajhar Police.

The recovered arms and ammunition include AK 56 Rifle – 1, AK 47 Rifle – 1, AK Magazine – 3; 7.62 mm live ammunitions – 51, pistol Astra 600 – 1 and a magazine of a pistol, the police said.
