Assam has got 5 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines from the Centre in the last two days.

“The State’s current stock of vaccines is 3.25 lakh doses of Covishield and 2 lakh doses of Covaxin. Another hatch of about one lakh Covaxin doses will arrive in a day or two,” health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters in Guwahati on Friday.

As per reports, the consignments of 3 lakh Covishield and 2 lakh Covaxin arrived in separate batches on Thursday and Friday.

“We are in the process of sending it to the districts. Stocks in some session sites are empty: We hope the normal vaccination programme will resume from Saturday in all the designated sites,” Assam Tribune quoted a source as saying.

The State had sought 19 lakh vaccines for the current month.

“The available stock will suffice for the next 10 days. We hope to get more consignments in the next few days,” said a health official.

Admitting that the vaccination drive has faced disruptions in some session sites, the official said things would normalize from Saturday.

The Centre had been denying the shortage of vaccines even though there have been disruptions in many states.
