Dibrugarh district on Saturday won the award of best district in the category of Organizing and Conducting Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day (VHSND) during the Poshan Maah.

Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal gave away the award and a cheque of Rs 50,000 to Dibrugarh election officer Runav Ramchiary at a function in Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati.

Ramchiary received the award on behalf of Dibrugarh deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha.

The entire month of September was celebrated as the ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’. This year, the theme was ‘Complimentary Feeding’.

Poshan Abhiyaan was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan.

The programme aims at achieving improvement in nutritional status of children up to six years of age, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

However, the Prime Minister’s overreaching scheme for holistic nourishment, Poshan Abhiyaan is a multi-ministerial convergence mission with a vision and target to address malnutrition by 2022.

The main purpose of celebrating the Poshan month is to take the message of nutrition to every nook and corner of the country and to focus on complimentary food, treatment and prevention from infections in children.
