Dibrugarh Police arrested one drug peddler and seized 47.3 grams of heroin from his possession during a raid at Dibrujan Railway line area of Dibrugarh town.

The drug peddler has been identified as Salim Hussain alias Guddu.

After getting specific information, a team of Dibrugarh Police, led by deputy superintendent of police Anup Jyoti Baruah, officer-in-charge of Dibrugarh police station Rajib Saikia and TSI Arjun Singh conducted a raid in drug peddler Salim’s residence on Sunday.

During the raid, the Dibrugarh Police team was able to recover a huge quantity of drugs from the drug peddler‘s house which was later seized.

The international market value of the seized heroin is stated to be around Rs 5 lakh.

Sources said Dibrugarh has been a hub of the narcotics trade.

The drug smugglers run a huge racket in an organised way.

In the recent past, many drug peddlers were arrested from Dibrugarh after a massive crackdown carried out by Dibrugarh Police.

“The drug smugglers get women and children involved in their team for easy transportation of the contraband items. Through an organised way the whole nexus has been running in Dibrugarh,” said a source.
