A Bangladeshi woman who took the risk to cross the border illegally and entered India to get together with her dearest husband, whom she had never met except talking over the phone from several thousand km away, had to face dire consequence and the alleged culprits are none other than the her in-laws.
According to police the incident took place at West Rahimpur village which is located between the border pillars and the barbed wire fencing under Kalamchora police station in Sepahijala district of Tripura on Saturday night.
Based on information of local villagers BSF called police and found the critically injured Bangladeshi citizen lying in the zero point area close to India-Bangladesh border pillar in Ashabari and who was later identified as one Sumi Aktar (29).
According to information Sumi and Nuzmul Hassan, who for the last five years was staying in Dubai with a work permit, had friendship over social media and later married few years back even though they never meet physically and except speaking over phone.
Sumi, a resident of Chawkbazar in Comilla, on hearing that Nazmul Hassan is back to India and in her native village just few kilometers from her house could not resist herself from meeting her soul mate and took the risk to cross the border and illegally entered Tripura on Saturday.
It is alleged that Nuzmul’s father and brother tortured her and disposed of her body on the other side of the border pillar in Bangladesh with the idea to keep the case out of Indian jurisdiction.
A local police officer from the Kalamchoura PS informed that they with BSF Assistant Commandant from Ashabari had rushed to the spot and after searching for sometime in the dark found Sumi in her last stage and immediately sent her in their vehicle to the Bakshanagar hospital but where she died.
On Sunday afternoon a flag meeting took place between the 74 battalion of BSF and 60 battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh and handed over the Sumi’s body after the postmortem.
Police has taken a suo motto case of unnatural death but there has been no arrest as of yet since the Sumi’s in-laws had fled from the area.
