The Dibrugarh district in upper Assam has reported 25 Covid19 deaths and 2,772 positive cases till Saturday since May 1, 2021.
Over 200 Covid19 positive cases have been reported from the tea gardens of Dibrugarh so far.
Zaloni tea estate and Mayajan tea estate were declared containment zones after several cases of Covid19 were detected in the tea estates.
The Dibrugarh district administration has started vaccination drive at the tea estates.
Meanwhile, the tea garden management and the Dibrugarh district administration have been working in tandem to contain the Covid19 cases in the garden areas.

Sanitation has been started in the quarters of the tea garden workers to contain the deadly virus.
Meanwhile, the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) authority has shut down Outdoor Patients Department (OPD) after the sudden rise of Covid19 cases.
“We have shut down the OPD after a discussion with Dibrugarh district administration. We have engaged the OPD staffs in Covid duties. Earlier, 200 patients came daily to OPD for treatment but now 30 patients are coming to OPD due to fear of Covid19 infection. Our casualty is open, so the patients can directly go to casualty for treatment,” AMCH principal-cum-chief superintendent Sanjeeb Kakati said.
Kakati said, “Till now, there is no shortages of beds in AMCH. Now, 144 patients have been admitted to the hospital. We have a bed capacity of 300, but if patients come regularly, then we will not be able to afford beds. Everyday, 30 patients are admitted to AMCH for Covid-related treatment.”
