State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the three-time CM has been on life-support during the past two days following multi-organ failure on November 21.

Doctors treating him at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital in Guwahati had put him on dialysis on Sunday after he became completely unconscious.

However, doctors could register only slight eye movement and a faint heartbeat in Gogoi on Monday morning.

“There is nothing much the doctors can do at this moment. We need a lot of prayers to save him,” said the health minister.

Gogoi had been admitted to the GMCH in August after testing positive to Covid-19.

Even after testing negative, he remained in the hospital and had to be admitted in the intensive care unit after he experiencing difficulty in breathing following a sharp drop in his oxygen saturation levels.

Although he was released on October 25, he was readmitted on November 1 with post Covid-19 complications.

Prime Minister Narendra  Modi, Union defence minister Rajnath Singh, former PM Manmohan Singh and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have called Lok Sabha MP and Gogoi’s son, Gaurav Gogoi to enquire about his condition.

Several political leaders also visited the hospital to enquire about the veteran leader’s health.
