Imphal: Properties worth lakhs of Rupees were destroyed in a devastating fire that gutted three dwelling houses at Saibol Joupi Village (near the Indo-Myanmar Border), Chandel District of Manipur.

A total of ten persons trapped inside these houses were rescued and the 2 partly burned patients were brought to the medical room for treatment by the Medical Officer of the central para-military forces deploying along the border, official sources said on Sunday.

The reason behind the fire that broke out at around 07: 30 PM on Friday is believed to be an electrical short circuit, an official of the Fire and Emergency Services said.

As soon as the fire was noticed and spreading its tongues to the adjacent houses, the sentry raised the fire alarm, and the security forces’ fire-fighting party was immediately launched with several fire tenders to rescue the civilians trapped inside the burning houses and to bring the swiftly spreading fire under control.

Due to the swift action and selfless courage displayed by the Assam Rifles, the fire was brought under control after one hour of laborious effort and the major loss of life and property was averted, the sources added.
