The oil spilling that began on Wednesday due to the blast at the Baghjan production well under Baghjan Oil field of Oil India Limited in Tinsukia, has adversely affected the aquatic life of the river Dibru.

Apart from the destruction caused to a number of small and large aquatic plants, the oil sprinkle has also resulted in the death of the Gangetic river dolphin of the river.

The locals on Friday recovered the floating carcass of a dolphin, which prompted to the devastating effect of the oil sprinkle has had on the river.

The explosion on Wednesday, according to sources, occurred due to some technical problems in the oil field as operational work was taking place in the day.

The nearby area is being evacuated apprehending fire in the gas in the atmosphere due gas being pumped in the air.

Because of the incessant rain, the chances of an immediate fire decreased.

The well where the blast took place is located 1.108 kilometres from Dibru-Saikhowa National Park and it is within 1 kilometre from famous Maguri-Matapung Wetland.
