A day after UPPL CWC member Prithviraj Narayan Dev Mech’s allegation of Rs 1,000 crore scam in BTC during Hagrama Mohilary’s regime, the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) hit back on Saturday.

Former executive member (EM) of BTC and BPF leader Dhaneswar Goyary lambasted United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) leader Mech over his allegation of scam in BTC’s Panchayat and Rural Development and Welfare for Plain Tribes and Backward Classes departments.

While talking to reporters, Mech said the scam involves former Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary, former EMs Rajib Brahma, Dhaneswar Goyary and the contractors engaged.

Goyary while hitting back at Mech raised questions on the veracity of the allegations and said, “There is not an iota of truth (in Mech’s allegations). It is just mudslinging on the BPF party after the expiry of the tenure.”

Former EM Goyary said it was UPPL which sought governor’s rule in the BTC region opposing BPF’s request for extension of the BPF-ruled Council’s term till the polls are conducted.

Goyary while denying their role in any misappropriation of funds called for an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or any other premier investigation agency.

The ex-EM claimed he is ready to face any such investigation and co-operate with the investigation agency, if any.

Goyary termed Mech as a traitor of the Bodo community and said “such persons of the community must be socially boycotted by the people as they have are of no good use”.

Mech, the 15th descendant of Bood king Chikra Mech, is known for his role as a co-mediator with the disbanded NDFB (Saoraigwra faction) in the signing of the latest Bodo Accord.

Mech has support from UPPL president Pramod Boro, who in his Facebook page urged Assam governor Prof jagdish Mukhi to look into the allegations of the scam to tune of Rs 1,000 crore in BTC and conduct a thorough inquiry and give punishment to those found guilty as per relevant provisions of law.

Mech on Saturday said legal action will be initiated very soon against the corrupt BPF political leaders, officers and contractors of BTC, who all have been involved in the huge scam.

Mech also appealed to the Assam governor to initiate inquiry into all the irregularities and misappropriation of government funds which took place in the last 17 years of BPF rule.
