Guwahati: A man identified as a local BJP leader was arrested by the police in Cachar, Assam for allegedly assaulting a minor sexually.
The accused was arrested from the Lailapur area of Cachar, Assam.
He was identified as Mayazul Ali Laskar (55).
It was alleged that the accused is an active panchayat-level BJP leader.

He allegedly tried to molest the minor when the girl came to his shop to buy some stationary items.
The shop was located near the school, reports said.
The accused had allegedly tried to molest the minor by pulling her inside the shop.
However, she managed to escape and informed about the alleged incident to a teacher.

The teachers taking note of the situation informed the girl’s father and he approached the police for further action.
Based on the complaint, the police apprehended Laskar and initiated and investigation.
