Debkumar Bose, the director of the first Manipuri feature film “Matamgi Manipur” bagged the prestigious Karam Monomohan Lifetime Achievement Award 2018 for his extraordinary contribution in the film and for the dedicated services he has rendered for the growth of regional and National cinema. The film received the National Award from the President of India.

He was conferred the lifetime award at an auspicious ceremony held at Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium, Art & Culture Complex on Tuesday. The function was organised by Karam Monomohan Memorial Trust (KMMT) in collaboration with Cine Artistes and Technicians’ Association (CATA), Manipur.

Minister, Art & Culture, L Jayantakumar Singh; Hon’ble Minister, Consumers affairs minister Karam Shyam; Minister, Water Resources Letpao Haokip;  Minister, Tribal Affairs & Hills,  K N Kayisii and President, CATA, R K Jnanranjan graced the function as Chief Guest, Guests of Honour and President respectively. Advisor of KMMT and deputy chief minister Y Joykumar also attended the event.

Highlighting that film as a medium depicts the philosophy of life, Minister L Jayantakumar lauded the upcoming film directors and artistes of Manipur who have brought laurels to the state. He also said there is agenda in the Cabinet for starting film courses by Manipur Film & Television Institute to train the film-loving youths from August 2018.

Appreciating the business and entrepreneur oriented activities of late Karam Monomohan, Minister Karam Shyam said his fame related with films and his philosophy will always remain historic and memorable in Manipur even with the passage of time.

In his keynote address, Deputy CM Y Joykumar, who is also Advisor of KMMT, said that Karam Monomohan was a pioneer as far as Manipuri Cinema is concerned.

The dignitaries, members of CATA and other officials present paid floral tributes to the photo of veteran film maker Karam Monomohan in the day’s occasion of his 9th death anniversary.

Cast and crew of Matamgi Manipur film including Aribam Shyam Sharma were felicitated during the ceremony.

Earlier Prof Arambam Lokendro gave a reminiscing note on the making of the National Award winning film.
