With the anti-incumbency factor featuring high in the ensuing Assam Assembly elections, BJP national president JP Nadda arrived in Dhakuakhana constituency to appeal to the public to cast their votes for the incumbent BJP MLA Naba Kumar Dolay.
The constituency has not witnessed much development during the past five years of the BJP regime in the state.
Now Nadda tried to turn the sentiments of the voters in favour of the BJP by condemning Congress’ poor performance in the past 60 years.
Addressing a BJP rally in Dhakuakhana, Nadda said, “Development during 60 years of Congress in Assam and development during five years of BJP rule shows the difference in the governance of the two parties.”
“If you vote for Congress you will be opting for the delay in development activities in the state,” he said.
Meanwhile, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who had been campaigning in Lilabari on behalf of BJP Lakhimpur candidate Manab Deka also tried to play on the religious sentiments of the voters.

Sarma said that the electoral battle is between the Assamese and Badruddin Ajmal’s AIUDF aligned with the Congress and that they should be defeated to save the state’s lands from encroachment.
Ignoring the fact that Assam now has a high percentage of unemployed youths with many hailing from the Lakhimpur constituency, Sarma claimed that he has fulfilled 99 per cent of all promises he made.
