The Lakhipur Police of Goalpara district during an operation in Chirang district on Friday rescued a kidnapped school girl and apprehended two abductors within 24 hours after the incident.

According to information, a girl of Class 9 at Hasdoba Higher Secondary School was drugged and kidnapped by one Jahidul Hoque and his wife Rajina Khatun of Hatimura village on the way to her school.

The family members of the victim filed an FIR with the Lakhipur Police Station and a case (771/18) was registered.

Undertaking a prompt investigation, Durlov Ch. Das, newly-joined Officer-in-charge of Lakhipur Police Station and sub-inspector Selim Ali, launched an operation in Chirang district with the help of local police.

In the operation, the victim girl was rescued and the two abductors were arrested.

“The abductors were planning to traffick the girl to Haryana and sell her there. We are fortunate that we could rescue her before it was too late,” revealed Durlov Das.

On Saturday, the abductors were produced before the Goalpara district court and sent to the jail.

The local people have highly praised the Lakhipur police for their prompt action.

Significantly, of late, kidnapping cases, specially of unmarried girls, are on the rise in the district.
