The Assam Public Works (APW) on Tuesday filed a fresh affidavit in the Supreme Court (SC) demanding 100 per cent re-verification of the entire National Register of Citizens (NRC) update process in Assam.
The organization sought complete re-verification of the NRC update process alleging major financial anomalies during the process.
APW president Abhijeet Sharma alleged that in close conscience with a few selected people, the former NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela siphoned off crores of money, meant for the NRC update work in Assam.
“We have also sought agencies like CBI, NIA and ED to investigate so that the misappropriation of funds during various segments of the process is unearthed,” Sharma said.

Sharma also alleged the updated NRC has included names of more than 80 lakh illegal foreigners.
“The NRC published on August 31, 2019, has names of almost 80 lakh illegal foreigners. The NRC was a process through which a large number of illegal foreigners became citizens of this country,” Sharma said.
He said there are many empty agricultural lands being transformed overnight into populated villages especially in the Barkhetri Assembly constituency of Nalbari district.

“In Sipajhar too, there is a similar phenomenon to be seen, where 182 bighas of agricultural land were converted into newly constructed villages,” alleged Sharma.
He alleged that the updated NRC contains names of illegal foreigners, who are involved in Jehadi activities.
“Jehadis including Azharuddin, Ranjit Ali, Luit Jamiul Jamal and Muqaddir Islam are now legalised Indian citizens through NRC…we have appraised the authorities concerned regarding this grave issue,” said Sharma.
He also accused Hajela of patronising software companies like Wipro Limited, Bohniman System Pvt Ltd., Madoc Technologies among others during the NRC update process.
Quoting CAG report, Sharma said in the name of interest-free mobilization advance, Hajela straightaway had given the opportunity to earn a profit of Rs 52.07 crore to Wipro.
