The Lifeline Express (LLE) or Jeevan Rekha, the world’s first hospital train, arrived at the Gauripur railway station of Dhubri district recently.
The Lifeline Express, to be inaugurated on January 18, is scheduled to be stationed here for 21 days at platform no. 3 of the Gauripur railway station.
The hospital will start its operation from January 18 and will provide free medical treatment including surgeries to needy patients free of cost, besides providing free medicines.
Lifeline Express or Jeevan Rekha was set up in 1991.
The first hospital train in the world, Lifeline Express provides treatment to patients across the country, mainly those who come from far-flung and remote areas under the government’s flagship programme.
It is a joint initiative of Impact India Foundation and the Indian Railways.
The hospital train is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art operation theatre (OT).
The train with a team of qualified doctors and surgeons provides free treatment and surgeries to patients on various services relating to eye, ear, dental, cleft lip, polio and cancer.
Official sources said the patients, who want to avail free treatment from the experienced Lifeline doctors, may contact the joint director of health services, Dhubri and the district administration for further details.
The Dhubri district administration and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) have initiated the event so that the needy patients of the district can avail of the facility free of cost.
“All credit for organising such a big event at the most backward district of Lower Assam goes to Dhubri deputy commissioner Ananta Lal Gyani. His sincere and untiring efforts have made the event possible,” said Sanjay Sethiya, secretary of Dhubri Lion’s Club.
