In a gruesome incident, as many as five people lost their lives after suspected DNLA militants opened indiscriminate firing in Assam’s Dima Hasao district. 

The DNLA (Dimasa National Liberation Army) militants targeted seven coal-laden trucks by firing indiscriminately at them and later setting them ablaze. 

The incident took place at Diyungmukh area in Dima Hasao district of Assam late on Thursday evening. 

The trucks were heading towards Lanka in Hojai district from Umrangso in Dima Hasao district.

Later, five charred bodies were recovered from the burnt trucks. 

Two truck drivers were shot dead, while three others were burnt to death when their vehicles were set ablaze by the militants, police said. 

Meanwhile, Assam police said that security personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. 

A joint combing operation has been launched by police, Army and Assam Rifles personnel to hunt down the militants.
