Three people were killed while seven others were seriously injured in an auto van-truck collision at Dhula in Darrang district on Tuesday.

The deceased and the injured were all passengers of the auto van.

According to sources, the incident took place when an auto van (registration no. AS 13-AC-1342) collided head-on with a truck (registration no. AS 12-AC-7945) near Sarkar Chawk under Dhula police station.

The injured have been rushed to Mangaldai civil hospital.

The victims have been later identified as Rafiqul Islam, Amina Begum and Saiful Islam of Aatakata area under Dhula police station.

The deceased worked as construction labourers, informed sources.

The driver of the truck, who fled from the spot along with the vehicle, was nabbed by police at Sipajhar and the truck has been reportedly seized.

Reckless driving has been suspected to be the cause of the road mishap.

Although the government has implemented new traffic rules to streamline the drivers – who drive vehicles without following government norms – by imposing hefty fines, many drivers still continue to ignore such norms.

It is a known fact that many truck drivers drive vehicles without valid license.

The district transport authority and the police department should make arrangement of regular checking of vehicles so that no one can dare to violate the traffic rules.
