In view of five Assam districts identified as coronavirus hotspots by the Union Health Ministry, Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi appealed to the leaders and mentors of different socio-religious, cultural and sports organizations to impress upon their followers and members to strictly adhere to the extended lock down period of novel coronavirus pandemic.

Prof Mukhi said the lengthening of the mandatory stay-at-home period to 40 days has been necessitated to contain and control spread of coronavirus in the country.

It may be noted that the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday listed five Assam districts as coronavirus hotspots, though all of them have been identified as ‘cluster hotspots’.

The Governor while appealing to everybody to remain inside and not to venture out unless it is extraordinarily an emergency situation, he observed that if the coronavirus situation spins further out of control, it will take a heavy toll on the human and economic health of the State as well as the country.

He, therefore, urged upon all to show their solidarity with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to follow the lockdown extension till May 3, next to break the chain of transmission induced by the novel coronavirus.

The Governor at the same time appreciated the residents of the state for observing 21-day national lockdown assiduously and cooperating with the government in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
