The 27th All Assam Masters Athletic Championship, 2018 was kicked off at Piyoli Phukan Stadium in Sivasagar of eastern Assam on Thursday.
The Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar district Pallav Gopal Jha inaugurated the four-day long athletic championship.
The Deputy Commissioner took the salute of the march past conducted by 32 participating contingents at the beginning of the inaugural programme.
Notably, veteran actor Bishnu Khargoria led the Moran contingent at the march past.
The championship that began with a walkathon on Thursday morning around the Borpukhuri paar will conclude on December 30 next.
The Championship organized under the aegis of Sivasagar Masters Athletic Association in collaboration with District Administration and Sivasagar Sports Association, is participated by as many as 1850 participants from 32 district units recognized byAthletic Foundation of India. The participants range between the age group of 35 to 95 years.
The inaugural programme was also attended by Superintendent of Police Subodh Sonowal, veteran sports legend and president of Assam Masters Athletic Association Arjun Awardee Bhogeswar Baruah, a host of senior sports persons, sports organizers, participants and spectators.
