The Assam Infrastructure Financing Authority (AIFA) that was formed with the aim of creating funds for major infrastructure projects has geared up to take up many projects to develop the infrastructural facilities of Assam.

AIFA has already issued tender notices to award the contract for construction of the proposed Tinsukia Medical College in Tinsukia district of Assam in the first phase at an expenditure of Rs 350 crore.

Moreover, AIFA is executing massive infrastructure projects of Assam at an expenditure of Rs 140 crore.

These projects include reconstruction of Assam House in New Delhi and Myntriang Small Hydroelectric Project in Karbi Anglong district and construction of office-cum-residential building in Majuli.

Apart from these projects, AIFA has also given the concerned department  the task of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for construction of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva Museum in Guwahati at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore.

It has also given other concerned departments the tasks of preparing DPRs of 132/33 KV, 2X50 MVA Nathkuchi substation 132 KV S/C Rangia Nathkuchi Line on D/C and the third Assam House at Dwarka in New Delhi.

The Assam Government constituted AIFA on October 6, 2009 with a view to expediting implementation of major infrastructure projects in the state with a dedicated fund .

It is registered under Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860 with its present office at F-Block, Janata Bhawan , Dispur, Guwahati.

It was formed with the sole objective of creating high quality infrastructural facilities with the help of Dispur’s own resources and funds.

AIFA has earlier brought land for the establishment of Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Guwahati at a cost of Rs 29.60 crore.

It has also provided a fund of Rs 7.52 crore to Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) for preparation of DPR and Feasibility Study Report for the Rail Based Mass Rapid Transit System in Guwahati.
