The Deshi Yuba Parishad, an organisation based in Dhubri district, submitted a petition recently  to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal alleging that the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president and Dhubri Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal had grabbed a plot of historic land meant for Eidgah at Alamganj area in the district by misusing of his political  power.

The Deshi Yuva Parishad (DYP) alleged that the land under Dag No 37 and 38 of the Eidgah, which has archaeological importance, under the Dhubri Revenue Circle  at Alamganj Part-9, was encroached upon for construction of Ajmal Industrial Training Institute.

The allegation against the Dhubri MP was made after a signboard was erected at the site for the proposed institute.

The DYP in its petition signed by Jahangir Ahmed Hussain, president of DYP, to the CM alleged,  “The plot, measuring 28 bighas, is a historical land and it involves the sentiments of the local people.”

“But, Badruddin Ajmal encroached upon the land by using his political power,” DYP president Zahangir Hussain Ahmed wrote in the petition to the CM and requested the CM to take immediate action.

As per information, the Ajmal Foundation in 2015 had written to the office of the Circle Officer, Dhubri seeking 11 bighas of land of the Eidgah for construction of the Ajmal Industrial Training Institut.

Jay Shankar Sharma, Circle Officer, Dhubri said that his office forwarded the application of Azmal Foundation to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dhubri and the DC office is yet to issue any clearance in this regard.

“We have learnt that there has not been any response from the office of the DC, Dhubri and hence the question of display of any signboard at the site does not arise and it will be illegal and it can be removed,” added Sharma.

Meanwhile, the local confirmed that the signboard, which was erected by Azmal Foundation, has now been removed after the matter was highlighted by few media groups.

While contacted, Lal Miya, nominee member of Dhubri MP (Ajmal), refuted the allegation of land grabbing and told Northeast Now that the signboard was erected under the direction of the Circle Officer, Dhubri during his spot visit at the site and “as the whole matter is lying pending before the District Land Settlement Committee, Dhubri, so the question of land grabbing does not arise”.

The AIUDF is getting a rat smell of political conspiracy  against Badruddin Ajmal as because the petition for land was filed before the DC, Dhubri by Ajmal Foundation, which is an individual body for setting up an industrial training institute. “But it has been seen that the complainant, Jahangir Hussain, who is an AIUDF founder member, is trying to get political mileage by tarnishing the image of Badruddin Ajmal,” said Lal Miyan.

Adding more, Lal Miyan also said that the AIUDF would take legal action against the president of Deshi Yuba Parishad, Assam (DYPA) for involving the name of Dhubri MP and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal in land grabbing matter which is totally baseless and beyond  truth.
