“The Darrang district civil and police administration are ready to tackle any possible untoward incident following the publication of the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the district on July 30 and at the same time we are hopeful that the people of the district will extend full cooperation in preparing an error free NRC,” said Ashok Kumar Barman, the Deputy Commissioner cum District Registrar of Citizenship Registration (DRCR), while addressing the media at his conference hall on Saturday evening.

The draft NRC will be available on website or through SMS and at the same time the printed copy of the draft NRC will be available in all the NRC Sewa Kendras (NSKs).

The Deputy Commissioner giving a brief account of the NRC figures stated that in the final draft, the district NRC authority has been covering a population of 5,48,371 out of the total population of 10,14,211 under 2,12,308 registered NRC applications.

Taking part in the press meet, Darrang Superintendent of Police, Sreejith Thiraviam informed that all the 80 NSKs in the district in 75 buildings have been divided into five zones to be led by one gazetted police officers while 33 sub-sectors will be led by one sub inspector or assistant sub inspector.

One section of armed police will be deployed in the highly sensitive NSKs while Quick Ready Team has been deployed in all the police stations.

To prevent the spreading of rumours, the cyber team of the district police has been keeping a sharp vigilance over the social media.

With a view to assist the civil administration, ten companies of central paramilitary forces have already been deployed in various locations and arrangements for the fixed pickets have also been made for the vulnerable areas of the district, he added.

He also assured that the police would take immediate action to tackle any untoward incident and made an appeal to the people of the district to extend all cooperation.

The police have opened up a joint control room with phone number 03713-222213 while the district administration has also opened a control room with phone number 03713-222723 while four Additional Deputy Commissioners will personally supervise the situation in all the four revenue circles.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, a total of 2,12,318 applications against 10,14,212 persons have so far been received for inclusion of their names in the draft NRC.

Significantly the administration has filed 2092 number of FIRs in different police stations of the district for producing fake documents.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati, Revenue Circle Officers Manali Jain, Dipsikha Saikia, Dr Sangita Borthakur, Yubaraj Borthakur, Additional Superintendent of Police Satyajit Nath and DIPRO Mani Mala Gogoi also attended the press meet.
