The AGP has decided to send a clarion letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against Citizenship Bill, 2016.
“We will send the letter to the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Through divisional commissioner and district magistrate we will send the letter to the Prime Minister on Monday…we will fight against this Bill,” said Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president and Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora.
Bora made it clear that in spite of the present political coalition in Assam his party will continue protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
Assam Agriculture Minister Bora said, “Our party is facing several criticism but even then we will fight against the Bill being an ally of the BJP in Assam.”
“If the Bill is passed, it will not take much time to move out of the coalition,” said Bora.
The AGP president also criticised the Congress for its “double-standard.” He said that Congress does not have any right to criticise the AGP.
“We are also supporting the bandh called by the AASU against the Bill on January 8, 2019. We will take the matter with all other like-minded parties to generate their support against the Bill,” said Bora.

He said that JD(U) and Shiv Sena have already extended their support against the Bill.
Sanjay Raut, leader of Shiv Sena Parliamentary in a letter said that his party is determined to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Parliament.
“The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) appealed to us to oppose the Bill in the greater interest of indeginious people of Assam and its language, culture and for protection of identity of Assamese people,” said Raut.
