Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led a cycle rally titled “Go for Glory, Lovlina” in Guwahati, which was joined by ministers and MLAs, irrespective of parties.

The event was organised to encourage and wish success to Indian boxer from Assam, Lovlina Borgohain, who is now in Tokyo to participate in the Olympics 2020.

Lovlina is the first woman and the 5th athlete from Assam, who qualified for the Olympics.

The cycle rally, which started from Last Gate, culminated in Nehru Stadium in Guwahati.

The rally, which was also participated by Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, was initiated by Sarupathar MLA Biswajit Phukan.

“With a vision to support & motivate ‘Assam’s daughter’ ace boxer@LovlinaBorgohai who is representing India at the@Tokyo2020, I launched a goodwill campaign ‘Go For Glory, Lovlina’ which started with a bicycle rally at #Guwahati today,” chief minister Sarma tweeted while sharing pictures of the rally.

“We are so proud of Lovlina who is the first female athlete from #Assam to represent India at the #Olympics & the second boxer after Shiva Thapa to participate in the same from the state. May you continue to bring glories to the nation,” Sarma tweeted.

While talking to the media, Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi, who also joined the cycle rally, said, “It is confirmed that Lovlina will win a medal in the Tokyo Olympic.”

Gogoi said he wishes her to become champion in the mega event.

“We are here for Lovlina Borgohain- the proud daughter of Assam and the first female pugilist from Assam to qualify for Olympics. On behalf of all the Assamese I wish her all the best for the upcoming campaign,” Gogoi tweeted.

Agriculture minister and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora, who also joined the rally, tweeted: “Pugilist @LovlinaBorgohai is the pride of Assam & the nation.

“Along with Hon’ble ministers and legislators, happy to have taken part in a bicycle rally, flagged off by HCM Dr.@himantabiswa, expressing the state’s support and wishing good luck to the #TokyoOlympics participant,” he added.

Ajanta Neog tweeted: “Assam’s daughter ace boxer Lovlina is today a symbol of hope and pride of the entire country.”

Forest minister Parimal Sukabaidya, while sharing pictures of the cycle rally, which was joined by him, tweeted: “With Hon’ble CM, Dr. @himantabiswa leading from the front, joined in the Goodwill Campaign ‘Go for Glory, Lovlina’ in Guwahati today to motivate and inspire Assam’s daughter, pugilist @LovlinaBorgohai who is representing India at the @Tokyo2020. Go for Gold, Lovlina!”
