Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) chairman Radhilu Chai Techi urged the administration, police, Gaon Burhas, NGOs and women groups to make efforts for ensuring prompt justice to women and child victims of crimes.
Expressing her discontent and discomfort over the reported cases of domestic violence, rape, child marriage, divorce and maintenance issues on Tuesday, Techi said it is high time to introspect as to why such cases are on the rise.
She urged all to fight unitedly for the cause of women.
Techi said this while addressing a legal awareness programme at the district headquarters in Bomdila.
She stated that to thwart such unfortunate incidents, extensive awareness programmes should be carried out.
The APSCW chairman urged the women and the adolescent girls to come out of their shell of timidity and age-old bindings, and fight for their cause which are right and legal.
Techi also appealed to the intellectuals, civil societies and other stakeholders to work diligently for gender equality and make women an equal partner for development of the society.
While commending OJU Mission for its yeomen services, Techi reiterated the Commission’s demand for 33 per cent reservation in jobs and in the Assembly besides called for 50 per cent reservation in Panchayat.
She also appealed to the government not to transfer investigating officers midway while investigating sensitive cases related to women and children.
Earlier, West Kameng deputy commissioner Dr Sonal Swaroop in her address expressed her optimism that the APSCW with the help of all concerned could play a vital role in bringing the women folk at par with the male counterparts for a healthy and meaningful society.
She assured all possible help for the same.
Among others, Commission vice-chairperson Heyomai Towsik, member Techi Hunmai, district and session judge T Padoh, advocate K Chotton, district planning officer D Riba and Bomdila police station officer-in-charge K Deb deliberated on various issues pertaining to women.
To mark the occasion, pledge for a plastic-free environment was administered by the Swachhta Hi Sewa nodal officer and ADC Gombu Tsering while DC Sonal unveiled the car stickers for a plastic-free environment.
The day-long programme was conducted by the APSCW in collaboration with the Women Working Committee, Bomdila and the National Commission for Women.
