An Assam Rifles jawan was martyred while another was severely injured after the water tanker they were travelling was ambushed near Hetlong village between Jairampur and Nampong in eastern Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Sunday at 9:40 am.

According to sources, the militants targeted the water tanker by detonating multiple Improvised Explosive Device.

Sources added after the IED blast, the militants opened fire indiscriminately targeting the 19 Assam Rifles personnel.

NSCN (K) and other Northeast insurgents groups are active in the Changlang district because it shares a boundary with Myanmar.

Sources said the attack on the security forces may be done by the NSCN(K), Ulfa(I) jointly.

However, no militant group has taken the responsibility of the ambushed.
