Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) deputy commissioner Talo Potom on Tuesday took stock of issues being faced by the government schools of the region.
Potom held a meeting with the principals/headmasters of the government at his office in Itanagar.
Various issues like academic progress, infrastructure, basic facilities like availability of drinking water and electricity, land encroachment and boundary issues, etc were discussed in detail.
The principals/headmasters highlighted that most of the school buildings have been constructed in the late 1970s and hence, were in dilapidated condition and needed immediate repair.
They also requested for the strict implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003.

They also appealed to the district administration to carry out a drive to check the sale of tobacco products near educational institutions in the state.
The COTPA prohibits selling of tobacco products to minors below the age of 18 years, and in places within 100 metre radius of an institution of education.
A request was also made to the deputy commissioners to look into the provision of appointing subject teachers to fill the shortage in the schools.
Government Secondary School, G-Sector headmistress Tarh Yaku requested the DC to guide them in making the schools of ICR a leading example for others to follow in terms of both academic and infrastructural excellence.
DC Potom on his part assured that a separate meeting will be soon conducted with the deputy director of school education (DDSE) for finding the best solution to the issues faced by them.
He would also visit the schools to see the ground realities.
