The Eight persons who were critically injured in a road accident in Zirikindeng, West Karbi Anglong under Zirikindeng police station last night, were shifted to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) today while bodies of the five killed in the mishap were brought to Diphu Civil Hospital for postmortem.
The accident occurred when a Shaktiman truck carrying more than a hundred people on their way back from a pre-Christmas celebration turned turtle after it had hit a tree and the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Two died on the spot, one died at Jirikendeng Primary Health Centre (PHC) and another two died at Kheroni PHC. All the injured were brought to Diphu Civil hospital last night. Doctors at Diphu Civil Hospital said there were 42 injured. This morning eight critically injured were referred to GMCH.
The deceased were identified as Leader Terang (60), Kave Chinthongpi (40), Melorin Terangpi (12), Firstingjun Terang (26) and Jasmina Engtipi (18). All of them hail from Umkhirmi.
The Chief Executive Member, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang along with Chairman, KAAC, Longki Timung , Executive Members and Members of Autonomous Council visited injured in Diphu Civil Hospital today.
The CEM directed Superintendent of the Hospital to provide adequate medicines and blankets. He also asked all doctors and nurses to be present to attend to the patients. He asked the hospital authority to arrange six ambulances for shifting the eight critically injured to Guwahati. The CEM also informed the Minister of State for Health, Pijush Hazarika about the incident and the critically injured persons being shifted to Guwahati.
He told media persons that KAAC authority would ensure that sufficient medicines were made available for treatment of the injured persons and blankets would be provided to them. He expressed deep shock at the loss five lives.
Meanwhile, the United Christian Forum organised a condolence meet on the demise of five persons at Rongkimi Presbyterian Church here at 5 pm today.
