The Dibrugarh cluster emerged as the overall champion in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalya (JNV) Regional Basketball Tournament (boys and girls) 2018 under Shillong region that concluded on Friday at the Darrang campus of JNV, Udmari while Golaghat cluster emerged overall runners-up.
In the finals, played on Thursday, Dibrugarh cluster emerged victorious in the final matches of boys U-17, girls U-17 and U-19 as well.
In the final match of Under 17 boys, Dibrugarh cluster got the better of Barpeta cluster by a narrow margin of points by 12-10.
On the other hand, in the matches of Under 17 and Under 19 girls, Dibrugarh beat Lakhimpur by 10-8 and Golaghat by 14-4 respectively.
In both the finals of Under 14 boys and girls category, Golaghat cluster lost to Thoubal (Manipur) cluster by 14-8 and 36-10 points respectively.
In the one-sided final of the Under 19 boys, Lakhimpur outclassed Kohima by 26-12.
Immediately after the final matches, a closing function was organized where the principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalya, Darrang, P Rajesh and other dignitaries gave away prizes to the winners.
It may be mentioned here that the three-day tournament had a colourful beginning on Wednesday.
