President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has assured the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) to look into the issues plagued by the State in a serious manner.
MPCC leader, Gaikhangam said this during a during a media interaction at MPCC head office in Imphal on Wednesday.
He said that on June 25 last, a team of 25 delegates from the state Congress unit called on President Ram Nath Kovind and detailed the issues related of framework agreement signed between Central Government and NSCN-IM, Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Indo-Myanmar border pillar issue and the impasse in Manipur University.
Regarding the framework agreement, Gaikhangam said if it is against the interest of the State then MPCC will not remain ‘silent’.
The party welcomes any kind of agreement which is for the welfare of the people but will not compromise if it affects the interest of Manipur, he said.
Regarding the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Gaikhangam said it could bring communal crisis among the people of the country.
Most of the north-eastern states will get huge impact when the bill turns into Act, he said.
Meanwhile, the Congress team also urged the Central Government to conduct the survey again and carry out a re-demarcation for each international border pillar in Manipur along Indo-Myanmar international border.
To resolve the issue, the team also submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister for Human Resources Prakash Javadekar.
Gaikhangam further said when the Congress delegation from Manipur called on the President Ram Nath Kovind, the latter gave positive response to the team for taking up necessary actions regarding the issues as well as to solve the Manipur University issue concerning the controversial Vice-Chancellor.
